Dit hondenportret heeft me behoorlijk wat tijd gekost om af te ronden maar het was heel fijn om er aan te werken. Het is gemaakt in opdracht in olieverf op linnen, 50 x 70 cm.This dog portrait took me a while to finish but it was a lot of fun to make. It's a private commission in oils on linen, 19,7" x 27,6".

Ontwerp voor een bedrijf dat hooi en stro verkoopt voor huisdieren. Het ontwerp komt op transparante folie verpakkingen in zes kleurlagen (incl. zwart- en witplaat).

Design for a company that sells hay/straw for pets. This will be printed on transparent foil in six different color layers, including white and black plates.

Dit zijn de schilderijen die, naast de modeltekeningen in pastel, gemaakt zijn voor de expositie 'Modelstudies'. Aanstaande zaterdag zullen Mio van der Lijn en ik op de valreep nog een keer aanwezig zijn bij ons werk voordat de expositie sluit.

Mijn agent Artbox gaf me de opdracht om een deur te beschilderen voor TNT. Het doel van de opdracht bleef wat vaag tot ik de video van deze direct mail campagne te zien kreeg. Ik ben blij met het resultaat.

My agent Artbox, provided me with the assignment to paint a door for TNT. The goal of the assignment remained somewhat vague untill I got to see the video of this direct mail campaign. I like the result.

'Ik hou van Pad' nu te koop!

'Ik hou van Pad' is een activerend prentenboek van meer dan 65 pagina's en met meer dan 150 levendige illustraties waar ik gedurende twee jaar aan heb gewerkt.

Tijdens een verhaal over pad en koekoek komen de kinderen van alles te weten over wel 100 dieren uit de directe omgeving. Met de zoekplaatjes bij de prenten kunnen allerlei feitjes/weetjes over dieren opgezocht worden in het encyclopediegedeelte. Deze opzet maakt dat het boek lang leuk blijft voor kinderen van 4 tot 10 jaar.

'Ik hou van Pad' is nu in de boekenwinkel te koop of via de internetwinkels voor maar 15 euro!

I dug up some traditional portraits I made to combine with the newer ones. The latest one I've painted is that of Wouter's son Tijn. The other ones are clearly older but I think it's acceptable to combine them with this newer and better painted portrait.
It's time to make more new portraits....

Two pencil drawings

I've been diving into my archives to discover that it's hard to make a selection from pieces that I, as the creator, look at as dated. On the one hand that's a good thing because I'm more experienced at judging quality. On the other hand it could be a bad thing because I'm not the most objective person when it comes to looking at past personal pieces. So I'm looking at them for a while longer before I'll be showing more :)

In the meanwhile I'm posting two older but not THAT old pencil drawings.

Back to the roots

Every artistic technique I know, I learned by practicing realism. When I started focusing on commercial illustration I put that realism aside. Too intensive, time consuming and hardly profitable.

But you can't deny your roots. And you can't turn your back on who you really are.

So realism is back. And this is the blog where I'll be posting my impressions and realistic drawings and painting work. Soon www.wildkunst.nl will be online, but this is a (re)starting point.

I'll start off with an oldie I always liked.
